Stained vs. Natural Bamboo Plyboo and Bamboo Veneer

March 14, 2012 in Bamboo Flooring

Amber is not a stain. Although the Amber is darker than the natural, it’s the natural color of the product.

People often ask about the variation in color in some of our products. It is usually assumed that our popular selling Amber Edge Grain and Flat Grain bamboo products, as well as the Havana Strand bamboo flooring and bamboo plywood are stained because of their darker coloring.  This isn’t so! The darker hues of both our Amber and Havana products are the products’ natural colors and have no stains or dyes.

The Amber color is achieved when the sugars that are in the bamboo caramelize during the manufacturing process. You will notice a variation of color between and within sheets with is normal and natural to the product. In short, the bamboo is “cooked” and the caramelized sugars inside the bamboo make it look darker in appearance.

The Havana bamboo product lines are also dark because of the manufacturing process.  Similar to the processing for Amber, some bamboo strips are cooked. These carbonized strips are then compressed into a super-strong board (or sheet). The heat and pressure of this process makes the color a deep brown color.

So there you have it. PlybooStrand Havana strand composite bamboo flooring, bamboo plywood, and bamboo veneers are the natural color just as Plyboo Edge Grain and Flat Grain bamboo flooring, bamboo plywood, and bamboo veneers and edge banding are.  Plyboo does offer a few stained products to offer a wider range of looks. Please visit our website to compare our offerings.

What is PlybooFit?

March 6, 2012 in Bamboo Flooring

What is PlybooFit?

Neopolitan flooring was used in this Northern California fencing studio. PlybooFit is versatile and can be installed with any Plyboo or Durapalm floor. Talk to a representative to see which flooring option is the best choice.

PlybooFit is an underlayment system designed to enhance our bamboo flooring for stage, dance, yoga, fitness, retail, or general home comfort uses. The underlayment system is made with 93% post consumer recycled rubber and is installed underneath the Plyboo bamboo floor. It is extremely versatile and can work in several situations. Let’s explore a few:

1.) PlybooFit for Retail

Carla is ready to renovate her salon. She has a large number of regular customers, and her staff has grown to 8 stylists. There’s so much action in Carla’s salon: from falling hair pins to high heel wearing customers. The stylists spend hours standing, and that can really get uncomfortable no matter what kind of shoes you’re wearing.

Fortunately, Carla chose PlybooStrand with a PlybooFit underlayment.  No flooring sales representative wants anyone to walk around in high heels, let alone drop anything. However, life deals in reality and not in ideal situations. The strand bamboo floor is the strongest bamboo floor on the market and can take what you toss at it. An even better strand bamboo choice is Plyboo’s Stiletto strand bamboo flooring. It’s textured surface makes it ideal in high traffic situation while matching the superb strength of our regular PlybooStrand line. It’s made for high traffic commercial use, and it’s 6 designer color options make it a stylish choice to boot.

PlybooFit underlayment system also gives relief to tired legs by absorbing a great deal of the weight from standing all day. It also absorbs some of the shock of dropped items in the salon. PlybooFit is clearly more than a fitness pad, it’s a comfort system for long-standing situations.

2.) PlybooFit is Fitness

Plyboo fitness installations in New York, Los Angeles, and Newcastle, England.

Lenny took over the lease of the neighborhood gym and found himself having to replace the old floor. He went with the PlybooSport bamboo gym floor installed over the PlybooFit rubber padded underlayment. A match made in fitness heaven!

PlybooSport is designed for high impact, high activity usage. When paired with PlybooFit, you have a flooring combination that is made for fitness. PlybooFit padding is designed specifically for lesser impact than basketball, so it is perfect for gyms, fitness centers, and dance studios. There is just the right level of absorption offered for maximum performance. Considering the multi-uses that happen in a gym such as martial arts classes, yoga, and dance aerobics, it works for group fitness just as well as in the weight room.

3.) PlybooFit at Home

Donna and Eric have three kids and they installed Plyboo Edge Grain bamboo flooring over PlybooFit in the kid’s playroom. Since the playroom is upstairs, Donna and Eric not only have installed a floor that can keep up with their active tots, they’ve spared their ears the noise of their running and tumbling. PlybooFit not only responds to activity, it dampens the sounds of feet overhead.

4.) PlybooFit is Modern

Stiletto in Cerused Taupe is used for a yoga studio over the PlybooFit underlayment.

Kaliki is the owner of an upscale yoga studio and chose to install the beautiful mosaic PlybooSquared end-grain bamboo flooring over PlybooFit. There’s just the right level of absorption to comfort those participating in activities without shoes. He loved the look of the flooring, and placing it over the fit padding offers the support needed for barefoot activities. PlybooFit is so versatile, he suggested it to his friend to install in her upscale boutique with the Plyboo Stiletto strand bamboo floor.

Remember, PlybooFit is an underlayment made specially for fitness facilities, rooms that see a lot of activity, areas that people are active with lighter support shoes or no shoes at all, and in work situations where employees stand for a long time. This versatile padded underlayment can be purchased with any Plyboo or Durapalm brand floor. Ask a representative why PlybooFit is a good choice, today.

Install a Bamboo Deck with PlybooDex

January 27, 2012 in Bamboo Flooring

Our Canadian distributor, Taproot, raced the coming snow to complete their bamboo deck in preparation for next spring.  Imagine the satisfaction when the grey clouds part and summer is in full swing.

After seeing PlybooDex at a tradeshow, they knew they wanted to sun themselves on it next summer.  They ordered the bamboo deck and deck fasteners and set to work, camera in tow. Before getting started, the built a base out of lumber.  The two decided they wanted it to be installed in two levels, so it appears that the deck floats towards the house.

They documented the installation of their Plyboo bamboo deck with photographs, which we put into a sweet little video outlining a few tips and tricks to improve your decking install.

Enjoy!
